Thanks to all the staff at Blue Island, Especially James who made my first dive seem like a I was a pro, well almost after we worked out a few instruction lessons. The boat ride over to our dive site was most enjoyable driven by Captain Jim who was also very helpful in getting me off the boat into the water and back on.My husband who has dived in Hawaii convinced me to go on a dive with him on this vacation. I have never been diving before, and if you have never had the experience in diving or a lesson and just want to get in the water and see more than snorkling on top go and see James at blue Island. I found him to be very informative about a basic lesson to dive. He watched over me like newborn duckling. Thanks Jim and James for a great time and we will see you all again in St Thomas. And we will be certified next time. The Newbee days are over.I'm going all the way and become a certified diver. By the way I love to snorkel yet when you see the bigger picture of the open ocean from the depths of 40ft it is very beautiful and breath taken and then your hooked. I know I was. Thanks again James and Catain Jim God bless! Chris and June Ring Apopka FL.

Stop. You are on the net looking for great diving. You will waste time looking at other St Thomas websites. (Besides this is the best, their webmaster is brilliant) You are looking for great service, quality gear, well maintained boats and fantastic diving. It is why you went to this log. You want a "SURE THING" right? No, of course my last name is not Cousteau but I do have over 150 open water dives in the Caribbean alone. Aruba, Bimini, Cozumel, Cayman, Florida, Grand Turk, Little Cayman, Roatan, St Martin with big outfits and little shops. Blue Island Divers is the real deal! Write to Bethaney or Deirdre and set something up. They are extremely accommodating and if you are cruise ship diving, your feet never touch land. No cattle boats with 30 divers. They'll pick you up in the dive boat at the end of the pier! Trust me, by then you'll want to break away from your shipmates for a bit and you don't pay the cruise line their cut. (you can use that cash to tip your great divemasters, believe me they will earn it with the level of service you can count on) I could go on about the diving but I swear to you, the descriptions on this website are not embellished in the least. Karen and I intend to go back at the beginning of the off season when the bait fish are running and the big stuff sometimes comes in to chow down. Go dive with these guys, you will be pleased, no that doesn't get it, lets use delighted, no thats not it either. I am going to say - completely and totally satisfied with the people, gear, boats, divesites and the island itself.

I dove on September 20th (2006) and had a blast. I had no plans to dive while on vacation but thankfully I met a fellow diver while on the cruise to St. Thomas that had booked her excursion with Blue Island Divers. At the time I met her she was scheduled to be the only diver so with a little more chatting I said I would take my chances that the boat hadn't filled up. It wasn't until we arrived in port that she was able to get a cell signal and call. Thankfully they had room for one more diver and a snorkel buddy. I can't thank James enough for making me feel so comfortable, making sure my boyfriend felt comfortable with me diving and for Jim making sure the boat didn't get to far from where we all jumped in. The spots we dove were great. Thanks so much & Thanks Debbie for encouraging me to go diving. :)

I dove with Blue Island on Tues 8/29 (noon 2 tank), Wed 8/30 (night 1 tank) & Thurs 8/31 (am 2 tank). I found their service to be outstanding!!! They were prompt when picking me up at the Marriott Pier, they knew the sites well and really helped me grow as a "new" diver. James was not only fun, he was helpful in every way possible. Telling him that I was a "new-bee" only made him more eager to show me new things and make my diving experience unforgettable. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around all that I took in while diving with him. WOW!!! Captain Jim made sure we were on time (pickup/drop off), safely got us to our sites and was there ready to grab our gear when exiting the water. On a whole my dive excursions w/Blue Island may have just ruined future trips with any other dive company. Can't wait to go back and dive with them again!! Many many kudos to James and Jim!!!

We were very pleased with the folks at Blue Island Divers. We brought both a large group of varying experience from a wedding party and a smaller group of experienced divers and both were very happy with the experience. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and professional and can work with divers of all skill levels. The diving was great and we would recommend them to anyone going to St Thomas.

The only way our family dives is with a private charter - and Blue Island Divers was affordable for our family of 3 divers during the end of July. We did 2 mornings, 2 tank dives with James our dive instructor. He was quite fun and very knowledgeable about our dive sites. Jimmy our skipper was extremely nice. We decided to go back to a dive site we went the day before and the crew was most agreeable. We stored our equipment with them overnight and in the morning upon pick up everything was clean and ready to go. We felt safe and had a great time with James and Jimmy. Thanks guys for a mememorable trip!!!!!!!!

Of all the dive tour operators in St Thomas, Blue Island Divers is by far the best. Starting with punctual and convenient pick-up at the cruise ship pier, to the personalized and friendly service by the crew, to the dive site selection, they are truly in a class by themselves. What favorably impacted me the most was when I asked Dive Master James if we could possibly dive my favorite site, the wreck of the Miss Opportunity, he did not hesitate for one moment and said "sure let's do it". You don't see this type of positive response with most of the dive operators. I will be back with Blue island Divers every time I visit St Thomas. Mario Salcedo

I want to say thanks for a wonderful day. We had 10 people from our group going out from the cruise ship dock. In our group was 7 snorklers ranging from 16 - 68 and 3 certified divers. Your team was fantastic at setting us up, meeting on time, outfitting each person and being sure we had a great time. I have dived in quite a few different places in the carribean but this is the first time I saw such a variety of sealife, incl: Sea Turtles, nurse shark, barracuda, stingrays, squid, puffer fish etc. We had a perfect time and the snorklers up top did also. I recommend you without hesitation and plan to see you next time we are visiting the area. Anyone on a cruise ship should feel very comfortable with booking with your very professional, knowledgeable and fun team. See you again soon.

It was a pleasure to dive with Blue Island Divers. I was picked up at the dock of the hotel which is a real plus when the cruise ships are in town and traffic is awful. The dive sites were wonderful as was the service. My gear was cleaned by them and kept overnight for the next day of diving. When I got on the boat again, my gear was ready for me to dive. I would definitely use them again when I return to St. Thomas.

My wife and I arrived at St. Thomas on July 25, 2006 as a port stop on our 7 day cruise. I was so impressed with all of the "pre-dive" information - everything was layed out exactly as informed - the dive boat arrived on time and James (divemaster) and the crew gave us a wonderful time. I particularly enjoyed the trip through the barges - it has prompted me to know that my next advancement will be wreck diving. Thanks again for the great time - I would recommend Blue Island Divers anytime ! ~ Jim Stevens

Thanks guys! Awesome trip. We spanned the spectrum in experience in our group, from brand new OW divers to an Instructor and James and Jimmy treated us like royalty on each and every dive (which was awesome by the way). New friends, I hope to run into them again one day. Jimmy, keep that mooring open beside yours, OK? From Brent, Tracy, Jay, Jacqui, and Nick - THANKS!

We had a great tme diving with Blue Island Divers two days. The first day my dad did a discover scuba diving and they were great with him. The next day my husband and I did our deep advanced dive. I was a little nervous but they were patient with me and it was the best dive I have ever done. There were few people on the boat whcih made it easy to get around and we didn't feel rushed. The water was warm, upper 70's to low 80's. We will definately use them again when we go back to St. Thomas

The diving experience with Blue Island was excellent. We did a reef dive and then a wreck dive. Ian was a great diver master. Our boat only had 5 of us diving, which was perfect. I was on a cruise and had the option to book a dive excurion through the cruise line. I'm so glad that I did not!! I watched the cruise passengers get onto their dive boats at the dock. They were using two boats and loaded 14-16 people on EACH one!!! Booking my own 1/2 day excursion on-line with Blue Island was definitely the way to go. Next time you are planning a trip to St. Thomas, look them up. I know I will!! Thanks guys!!

Had a great time diving while docked on our cruise. We dove Tank Reef and the Navy Barges. The barges were awesome. We got to swim through them and saw tons of colorful fish and corals. Felt safe the entire dive and we got to stay down until our air was low (45-60min of diving). Very easy to find the dock from the ship--will definitely dive with them again the next time we're in St. Thomas!

Myself and another experienced diver made arrangements to dive through BID while in port w/ a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The dive boat picked us up at the pier/dock and then dropped us back off at this location. We did not even need to travel to the dive shop for payment or processing (since we made reservations online prior to the trip). The diving was great- saw Barracuda, French Angelfish, a Spotted Eagle Ray, a Green Turtle, Porcupinefish and others. Two tank dive consisted of a large wreck (called 'Concrete') and a reef dive. The divemaster and pilot were friendly and professional and provided for a great way to see St. Thomas. PS- Try the Green Room (in town) after the diving for hydrating and a good atmosphere.

This was the only scuba service that offered to pick us up and return us to the dock by our cruise ship. The others said a cab would be necessary. There were only four of us on the dive boat. The rental equipment was just great. The dive master and boat driver were courteous and knowledgeable. We were back to our ship before lunch having had two very good dives.

I had an excellent time on this time. The crew was extremely professional. I was staying on the island and had been trying to find a dive shop that was located close, but wasn't on the other side of the island and I found it. I would absolutly dive with BID again in the future. I would recommend it for anyone that want's to dive on a boat that isn't swimming with tourists and doesn't pack you in with sardines. There were 8 divers on the boat and that was good enough for a guided tour of a wreck. I really can't wait to come back.

Dove w/ Blue Island for the second time from a Princess cruise ship. Was great how they picked us up and dropped us at the dock. Again, very friendly, had a nice dive, was well taken care of, and they did not give me a rough time as this was my first dive in about 1 year though my open water certification belies my over 200 dive experience. Saw big turtle, octopus, and great reef life. Thanks for a great time and look forward to doing it again!

Took a Royal Caribbean cruise to St. Thomas. Had same experience as everyone else listed on this site- saw all the cruise cattle go to boats with TONS of people on them. Then we saw our boat, and our 4 others we were diving with. Great experience, would highly recommend. They were willing to go through extra steps for us as well. Thanks!!!!

What a wonderful dive experience! Blue Island Divers worked with us to set up 2 afternoon dives in St. Thomas on Wednesday, March 22nd. We went to two different wreck sites that were great to swim through. We saw a lot of sting rays, colorful Queen Angels, as well as other fish, spiny lobster and the most laid back turtle ever! The boat met us at the pier, the equipment was ready to go and James and Ian were very friendly and helpful. The whole process was very easy. I highly recommend Blue Island Divers.

Our family booked a dive trip with Blue Island Divers during our cruise to St. Thomas. We were on the Caribbean Princess and docked at 7a.m. We were met right under the nose of our ship and off we went. It was so convenient. Most of the divers from the ship were lined up waiting for the dive trip they booked from the ship. It looked like such a madhouse. The 4 of us were thrilled to just hop aboard our own private dive. The captain and the dive master were very professional and everything was already set up for us on the boat. We didn't have to go very far, maybe 10 minutes to our dive site. The dive was really wonderful. We swam among sharks, spotted eels, stingrays, barracudas, squid and many other colorful fish. We went on 2 reef dives and enjoyed them both. I would definately recommend them and I would suggest using them if you are coming from a cruise ship. We had a great time and look forward to diving with them again....thanks

Just got back from St.Thomas and had the opportunity to dive with Blue Island divers. We booked through there web site and they responded quickly. We arrived via a cruise ship and they met us as planned. I dove with my wife and 12 year old son and they were able to accommodate all our needs as planned. We had a great dive master (Lureen? spelling) and she took good care of us. I would not hesitate to use their services again especially from a cruise ship. Only 6 divers to the boat , Nice! 11/16/2005 Chartered with Blue Island Divers. St. Thomas - Dive #1 was a beautiful coral reef called REEF Bowl. Depth = 67 ft, Vis = 75ft, Water temp = 80 degrees F. Saw a parrot fish, baby sea turtle (I told the kids it was "Crush" from Finding Nemo) and lots of other sea life. Dive #2 - My first Wreak dive. Navy Barges - Depth 40 ft. Vis was poor (8-10 ft), sandy bottom. It was 2 old WWII barges that were sunk in the late forties. Although the surrounding water was murky, it did clear up once inside the vessels. Saw a barracuda, giant lobster and a small ray. First time I have ever done a wreak, so it was a little spooky going through the holes that had been blown through the ship, but we had a great dive master\guide who took everything very slow and made it very enjoyable. __________________ Boingophreak

We dove with Blue Island Divers during our cruise aboard the Caribbean Princess. The were just six of us that went diving, three couples. We were meet just a short distance from where the cruise ship docked and were meet by Lauren and Jimmy. They took us to the Navy barges dive site. Lauren was our dive master. She was great! My wife and I had only dove twice before in the ocean. She was very kind and reassuring. Jimmy was the captain of the ship. We suited up and jumped in. Lauren was right there to guide us around. We saw lots of different fish and sea creatures. It was a great site. Even with another BID group there we still were able to follow Lauren around and see lots of different things. After a slow and very wavy ride to the next dive site, we finally got back in the water. My wife and a friend were quite sick on the way over. While on the way, Lauren explained more about the things we had just seen and did some preliminary explaining about the reef dive we were about to do. The reef dive was great too. Lots of things to see. About half way through the dive, we saw a Nurse Shark. WOW!! Amazingly graceful and sleek. Being a first time diver, I was taken aback at how beautiful and large the creature was! Awesome even at a distance of 20 to 30 feet. Lauren was all excited and gave us hurried signals so we didn't miss it. Did I mention Lauren was awesome!?! Finally we were finished with the dive and returned to the surface and Jimmy waiting to help us aboard. My second ocean dive is one I will never forget and our thanks go to Lauren and Blue Island Divers. When we go back to St Thomas, we will dive with BID again and request to dive with Lauren!!!

We booked our dives with Blue Island Diver's instead of through the cruise ship. All of which was done via e-mail. Our dives with Blue (Island) was exactly what we requested. We had 4 certified divers and 1 snorkeller and wanted to do shallow dives for our 70+ year old snorkeler and that is exactly what they provided. They picked us up just as stated in their web site. Blue island communication was fantastic and kept me informed throughout the booking process. We will definitely return to Blue Island Diver's when we return to St. Thomas.

This was my wife and I first time visiting St. Thomas. We chose Blue Island Divers after hearing so many horror stories regarding cattle boat with about 40 or so divers. Blue Island Divers had a small boat with about 6 or 8 divers, with 3 employees. The employee was wonderful, taking the time to help us find the various sea lifes that exist underwater. Diving in St. Thomas was our first time ever to experience an open water in the ocean. We had only dived in lakes. The dive master was kind enought to show us the eel, turle, various kinds of sea life. All i can say is that these dives were AWESOME... They were wonderful to dive with.. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Way to go guys and gals, and keep up the wonderful experience of open water diving. We would do it again... I also wanna send a shout out to RED, since hes from the good ole state of Georgia.

I was not impressed at all with the dives we did. We had very inexperienced people mixed with experienced people. I was kicked or bumped inot a few times along with my girlfriend. We did a wreck as the first dive and a diver doing his checkout dives who was having bouyancy issues and finally we stayed above the others not to get injured. Our second dive was deeper than out first which goes against all the dive training I have had. The divemaster was a fill in and a good guy but was clueless about the group and what to do. We were supposed to have Deirdra whic she told me herself but had gone to the Coco's islands to dive while we were there. We were supposed to dive 2 more days with ya'll but opted to go to some one else who ran a more professional operation. I felt I wasted my money but paid for the time anyway. Thanks for trying, Bob Lipkind

We had an easy time of it. Just show up on the dock (next to the cruise ship). Equipment was ready, we were half way to the dive site, all we had to do was show our dive card and get in the boat. The guides were as knowledable, friendly and helpful as one could possibly ask for. I would recommend Blue Island to anyone who wants a good dive experience in St Thomas.

Blue Island were awesome. From emailing and setting up my trip, to diving and finishing my open water Certs. James was a great instructor, enthusiastic and attentive. My boyfriend has been certified for years and we both had a great trip. We'll always dive with Blue Island whenever in St. Thomas.

My friend and I completed our last two certification dives with Blue Island in September while on a cruise. After seeing the number of people on the cruise ship dive boats, I was quite relieved to see the small group size with Blue Island Divers and glad I didn't book through the cruise ship. The dive master we dove with was great and showed us a lot of interesting things. I will definitely use this company again if I travel to St. Thomas again.

We had a great dive with Blue Island. We were a little spoiled though, as it was just our family of four on the dive boat that day! What a great experience it was. And my wife got to see a large sea turtle, the one species she has missed in all of our dives! Thanks again and we hope to see you soon. Doug Birkby

My son and I dove with Blue Island Divers. These guys are the absolute best. We also dove the Bahamas during the same trip. There was no comparison in the superior service that we got from Blue Island Divers. They were friendly. They let us help decide where to dive. The equipment we rented was very nice. Their service was outstanding. They even waited for us when we were late getting off the cruise ship (don't know if they can always do that). We enjoyed this so much. We dove a reef and a ship wreck. They took us inside the ship. Would recommend these guys to everyone. Thanks for such a great time!

Used the PADI website and found BID after our cruise ships dive excursion was booked up. It was a good break for us. Our first dives could not have been any better than they were. Jim and James were a lot of fun. I will dive with BID if ever in St. Thomas again.

Scoped-out the dive operators via the web and called BID once in St. Thomas. Staying at the Marriott which meant I had to do all the arrangements over the phone (gear, p/u, payment, etc). Couldn't have been better/easier. Ian worked with me and diving with Capt Jim and Deirdra and the other (4) guests was great; they even got a night dive together when I mentioned I would like one. It's the personal attention and small group that I believe divers are looking for (along with turtles, eagle rays, drums, etc). You guys are what we're looking for, thanks.

My wife, newly certified 13 year old daughter, and I dove three days with Ian and Capt. Jim and had a terrific time. We particularly appreciated the small groups on the boat, the convenience of being picked up at the Marriott dock, and arriving with all of the rental equipment we had requested all set up. But most importantly Ian led us on six very nice dives that were appropriate for our newby and interesting for the rest of us as well. Jim was very helpful getting us organized and taking care of getting us to great spots. From online booking to our final wave goodbye this outfit was absolutely first rate -- professional, personable, and fun. If we come to St Thomas again Blue Island is where we will book. Thanks again to Ian and Jim

I thank my lucky stars I booked independently with you guys instead of the cattle-boat offered by Holland America. Only six divers, beautiful dive boat, professional/courteous divemasters, great site(s) and conditions... I couldn't ask for anything more. Next time I'm in St. Thomas you will absolutely get my business! Only next time I'll remember to charge my digicam battery the night before (so it doesn't die after 12 shots!). My best to Bethany (sp?) - hang onto that snorkel next dive, okie ;) - link to my cruising diving recap shown as the URL above... but in case it doesn't show up (before I click the submit button) the URL for text is http://davidpresley.com/dive-hal05.html, with several child pages from there containing photos.

I recently spent 4 days (8 dives) with BID. It was wonderful. We did wrecks and reefs, deep and shallow, all kinds of variety. I'm fairly new at this, but I can't imagine it getting any better. The crew were very accomodating to pick me up and drop off at the Marriott dock. Thanks again.

We had a great time diving with Blue Island. They picked us up right from the pier, and dropped us off as scheduled. Of course, our ship was the last one on the pier, so it was a LONG walk to the pickup point. Next time, I'm bringing a rolling bag! Dive sites were nice, and crew was friendly and efficient. Thanks!

Recently did a morning two tank dive with Ian and Captain (can't remember his name, sorry). Had been with BID this past November and had to return. They picked us up at the Marriott dock, right on time. The gear was all ready. Ian checked our dive cards and off we went. One of the reasons we came back to BID was the great service and small number of divers on the boat. This am there were only six including Ian. We dove the Kennedy, then a nearby reef, both fairly shallow, which my wife prefers. Ian led the dive and at the same time let more experience divers do their own thing. I could'nt be more pleased with everyone and everythin at BID. The diving in St. Thomas is equal to the diving anywhere in the Caribean. We certainly recommend BID and plan to return and dive with them again. We returned by way of the Crown Bay Marina, had shower, bought a t-shirt, and had an excellent lunch nearby. We then took a taxi back through downtown for some shopping and back to the hotel. We'll be back! david

I dove with Deirdre and Ian, Jimmy was the Captain. I got my dive certificate while I was in St. Thomas and then dove every day. It was great! Deirdre made the licensing painless and we saw some great stuff (turtles, nurse sharks, lobsters, a dolphin). We did some wrecks and some reefs. It was all good, but if you get a chance, ask to dive the Kennedy and see if they will take you out to the "Rockpile" (tipping Jimmy and the crew might help the cause)It's a longer trip but worth the extra time. The dive shop is conveniently located and there is a restaurant right there when you get off the boat. I highly recommend Blue Island.

Just got back from 4 days of diving with Blue Island Divers. Being new to diving I was a little wary at first, but after my referral dives were done I was ready and eager to go for more. Deirdre, James, Ian and Jimmy made diving extremely fun and they always acted professionally. The dive sites are fantastic, how often do you get to dive two 300 foot wrecks in as many days?!? Barefoot Diver is an awesome boat, plenty of room for everyone. If you're staying anywhere on St. Thomas make the trip to Crown Bay Marina to get wet with Blue Island Divers, you'll have a great time!

My husband & I arrived on a cruise ship at the end of February. This was to be our first ocean dive and we had only 2 weeks earlier completed our advanced open water certification. We were excited and nervous because we didn't know what to expect. We were met at the dock and were so thrilled that we were the only two going out on the boat. Deidre was great. She made us feel so relaxed and helped us get properly weighted for our first ocean dive. It was such a nice, calm feeling. We thoroughly enjoyed both of our dives. Our boat captain (I apologize because I don't remember his name) was very helpful and enjoyable as well. When we make it back to St Thomas we will certainly be contacting Blue Island for diving. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

My family took a diving/snorkeling trip with Blue Island and we had a fantastic time. Blue Island took care of all of our special requests, were fabulous about giving instruction, taking us on a snorleling tour while the others were diving and the site for diving was perfect. I could not say more about how much I loved this trip with Blue Island. I highly recommend them and would take another trip with them next time I visit the Caribbean.

I came off a cruise ship for a two-tank dive. Some operators seem to view cruise passengers as "not real divers" and give them second-class treatment. Not so here! The crew was friendly and helpful. The dives were good and I was free to do my own thing without over-zealous supervision. I would dive with them again, any time.

We had a great experience with Blue Island Divers. They were very accommodating to our family with two 12-year-old rookies and two experienced adults. They really paid close attention to the needs of our kids and helped them attain their open water status. The kids really enjoyed it and also learned a lot. BID went out of their way to make sure everything was smooth and enjoyable. I would recommend them highly to anyone diving in St. Thomas. Thanks, Scott

My husband and I did our Closed Water Dives and exam in Kansas in late February as we wanted to do our Open Water dives for our certification when we went on a cruise in March. We pased the Kansas part so went online to www.padi.com to find certified dive shops on the two islands we would visit, St. Thomas, USVI & St. Maarten. We found Blue Island Divers through the Padi website, sent them an email with a request to book our first 2 open water dives with them. We received a reply within hours. No problem, fill out the application form, and we had our reservation, which was fully refundable if we had inclement weather. Well, the night before we got to St. Thomas, I couldn't remember if we were diving in the morning or afternoon. So we ended up sleeping in until about 8:30 when I awoke & remembered my cell phone would work since it was the US Virgin Islands. I found their number and discovered we were scheduled for the morning dive and they had already been to the ship to get us. I thought we had just wasted $250 when I was told that they could still fit us in, after picking up another diver from the Marriott. We had our own instructor for the two of us and there were two other certified divers also on board. Ian, Kevin and Kevin were our dive master and crew and took us to two great dives, one a reef the other a sunken WW11-era barge. Ian was very helpful in explaining exactly the skills we would need to perform, what to expect on each dive and made sure we had very enjoyable and safe dives. The equipment was top notch, the boat beautiful, the weather to die for, and best of all, we passed the tests! If there was any downside to the whole experience, it was that we had to leave so soon. We will definitely be back to dive on St. Thomas again, and would not book anywhere else. You guys were great! PS: We passed the two tests the next day on St. Maarten and 5 days after returning home, our PADI certification cards were in the mail! Thanks again Stu and Darlene Smith

Our time with Blue Island Divers was the perfect complement to our cruise!! They picked us up right at the dock in the dive boat, and off we went for two great dives. The wreck of the Kennedy was an ordinary work barge, but the abundance of corals and marine life inhabiting the wreck more then made up for it. Upon entering the wreck, we came face to face with a 6ft barracuda! We saw two large green sea turtles and many types of reef fish. The second reef dive included many swim thrus and small caves, with fish hiding in each nook and cranny. Our dive guide was very friendly and helpful in pointing out the undersea landscape. The best part? While we waited for our diveboat, we watched 28 divers from the cruise ship get on another boat..... we had 5 divers in our group. NO CATTLEBOAT !!! Thanks for the memories..............

I booked two dives over the internet before leaving the UK for our Disney cruise not knowing what to expect. Well that isn't quite true as Blue Island Divers had been praised in an article in 'Diver' magazine and being a BSAC School made me think they must be OK. They didn't disappoint. It's late January and I'm now in the Caribean. Their hardboat met me at the quay from the cruise ship, they checked my qualification book and recent dives, my kit was ready and set up, they asked me where I wanted to dive- I told Ian(the guide)- he said no problem and off we went. With just one other visiting diver(Greg)we basically dived as a buddy pair going where we wanted. Compared to the group of 9 on the cruise ship organised dive the previous day it was heaps better in all respects. We dived the 'Tank Dive' and the'Kennedy Barge'(see their dive site guide). Saw Turtles, Lobsters, Crabs, big Sponges of all colours, Angel fish, Pipefish, Stingrays, Snapper, Garden Eels, Jawfish, Octopus, Barracuda, Conch and many others I wont pretend to know. I can't start to tell you the names of the multitude of hard and soft corals. For someone who has done 95% of his 100 dives diving in British waters the visibilty of 20-25m was out of this world and its better at other times of the year. On the boat their was plenty of water and the skipper(sorry I didn't make a note of your name)fed us with crackers and a pickled conch mix. If I go back to St Thomas I would definitely join up with them again, and if I go on a cruise again I would avoid the groups of very inexperienced and unprepared cruise divers. And finally being typically British and not at all used to tipping I totally forgot about giving the guys a tip when I left them on the quay all excited about what I had just seen. If you are heading their way go and join them

My wife and I came in on a cruise ship the first week of February with not a lot of spare time allowed on shore. The Blue Island folks met us promptly after docking, whisked us right over to the shop, and had us on the water in no time. The dive boat setup and the fact that it was not crowded out allowed everybody to gear up without knocking each other over. Conditions were great and we did one wreck dive and one reef dive. The Master allowed everybody to freelance a bit but still kept a watchful eye. All in all, one of the best experiences we have had, and afterwards we were returned to the ship in plenty of time. Thanks to everyone and we WILL be back!

What a GREAT couple of dives! Although the sea was a tad rough and the weather not the best, the visibility was great and the sea life plentiful. The underwater topography was the best I have experienced anywhere. I appreciated that our dive guide gave us all the latitude we wanted to explore on our own, or stick with the rest of the group. Can't wait to visit St. Thomas and Blue Island Divers again. Thanks, Guys!

I dove for five days (two tanks per day) with Blue Island Divers during the week of January 24, 2005. Your efforts, especially Ian and Beth, made my dive stay on Saint Thomas so memorable and pleasureable. You took good care of my equipment and were always prompt, and sometimes even a few minutes early, in picking me up at the hotel. And who could forget your Jeep Ian. You also allowed me, without any reservations or additional charge, to change my morning reservation to an afternoon one at the last minute so I could dive at sites more suitable to my skill level. You were always understanding of everyone's diving deficiencies, of which I am sure mine were many. You always chose interesting dive sites and most importantly, dive sites that were not being used by other divers, especially the cattle boats. Your knowledge of not only the dive sites, but also of the history of the islands, was most informative and helpful in enhancing my dive experience. A family that dove at the same time I did on several days said on several occasions how professional your operation was (I agree) and how nicely they were treated (me too), especially the father who spoke of Beth in glowing terms for having gotten him to reduce the amount of weight he used by 50%. All in all I had a great week of diving, in large measure because of your efforts. When I return to Saint Thomas, you can rest assured that I would only dive with Blue Island Divers. The only disappointment of my dive trip was that Blue Island Diver's air compressor was broken during my entire stay and thus I could not get any Nitrox (their Nitrox station is one of only a few on the island). However, it was no fault of Blue Island Divers that it was not fixed as "H", the owner, made Herculean efforts to get the needed parts to fix the machine. The parts supplier simply would not cooperate. This is just one more instance of where Blue Island Divers made every effort to make their divers' experience a good one.

I arranged to do my first two open water dives in advance by email with your organization. As promised, I was met right on the cruise ship dock and then driven back to the dock after the dives. I went with Ian and he was a joy to work with. He helped me to relax and to enjoy the dives, while at the same time learning quite a bit on each one. The next day (in St. Maarten) I was able to build upon those two dives and complete my second two for certification as an open water diver. I look forward to my next cruise, and the chance to dive with you again. Thanks again! Blue skies and gentle currents! --rita

I was in charge of coordinating the dives for a group of divers cruising on the Disney Magic at Christmas time. Our arrival in St. Thomas on Christmas day was a bit of a concern, but though email communications that was one fear put to rest. Great communications and answers to the questions. Our group was a mix of experienced divers, teens and a couple of divers just out of certification. Ean, your DM did an excellent job of dive briefing for both dives. Your offering of Nitrox was a welcome plus as was the ability of the divers to dive their own profile. I like to have some guidence in undived waters, but don't like being forced up with 1400psi because some newbie sucks his tank down in record time. Great job to all!! We WILL be diving with you again!

We dove with Blue Island on December 25 and had an amazing experience. Your boat picked us up at the cruise ship dock right on time, and we had about 10 divers total on the boat. After watching the cruise ship "cattle boat" depart with around 50 people onboard, we were thrilled we booked with you. The first dive was on the Navy Barges, a dive that I had requested, and it was a blast. The swim throughs were loads of fun and the wrecks were incredible. The second dive was an aquarium type dive and we had a great time cruising around looking at all the life on the reef. We look forward to returning to St. Thomas for a week's vacation sometime in the future, and plan to book all our dives with Blue Island. Thanks for the fabulous service.

John & I arrived by cruise ship on 12/17/2004. We had an awesome 2-tank dive and were lucky enough to be the only divers so we had the ultimate experience. The diving was excellent once again and we were well taken care of. We hope to return again next year!!!!!!!!

My friend and I went diving with BID the first week in November. Everything was set up before our trip, and we were told to be on the dock at Frenchman's Reef at 9:15. Much to my surprise, they were there by 9:00. They seem to run on real time, not island time, if you know what I mean, because they were at the dock each morning a bit ahead of schedule. So we got to the dive sites early, and encountered other boats only one other time during our three days diving. The sites were varied enough so that out of six total dives, we didn't feel like things were too repititious. The nice thing was that, since we were comfortable being on our own, we didn't have to stay tethered to the group. Ian kept an eye on everyone, and had solid briefings on board pre-dive, so with your own computer, you could map out your own course. The boat and equipment was all well maintained, with change overs between dives handled quickly. A real plus was that the shop would take your equipment overnignt, rinse and store it, and have it ready for the next morning. A real plus that avoids having dripping suits, etc. scattered all over the hotel room. We also didn't have to carry it up the long stair climb back to the hotel. I would look forward to diving with this operation anytime I am back in St. Thomas.

From booking to completion of our dive the experience with BID was great and hassle free. We were met at the dock by our guide and had just a short ride to the dive boat. It took just a few minutes to complete the paper work and the crew already had our BC's on tanks. I have an 11 year old diver so I couldn't take him deeper than 40 feet. BID was very accomidating to make sure we stayed above the reef. The dive site was chosen in advance so that we cold see as much interesting stuff as we coould at the shallower depth. Our first dive site was a reef with lots of different types of coral. We saw plenty of fish, one of the other divers saw eels, but we didn't. We had a bottom time on this dive of 38 minutes at a max depth of 49 ft. We had te opportunity of going through the reef which we both enjoyed especially my son. The second dive was over two barges. they had been there a long timeso they had lots of growth on them. there were more fish around this structure than the reef. It was fun to explore the inside of the barges. We had a bottom time of 48 minutes on this dive at a maximum depth of 41 feet. We really enjoyed the outing with BID. We plan to go back when my youngest diver is able to explore deeper. Thanks a lot guys, Roger

We dove with BID Oct.21 2004 on a day starting off with fairly heavy rain. Called shop to see if dive was still on & they said absolutely. Good way to start being very positive & hey I was looking to get wet anyway. Capt.Jimmy & Ian the DM picked us up at dock which is a sweet deal that not everyone makes. We dove the WIT Concrete 1st where the sea was really rolling, but no current or surge once you dropped under. 60ft viz & 82 bottom temp at close to 100ft. We dove Horseshoe reef for 2nd dive with 80ft viz and 84 bottom temps at 50ft. Ian allowed great latitude for diving your own profile, but since we are newbies we kept within sight. Capt Jimmy was quick to set up & change over gear which I normally do for myself, but he always beat me to it. Only had 7 divers plus Ian & The Barefoot Diver had plenty of room. Will definitly dive with BID again when in St.Thomas.

Dove with BID's six straight days. Never visited the same site twice. I dove at two other operations in St Thomas previosily, both were good, but BID's was by far the best!!! They dive sites no else does including some amazing wrecks. Caliber of other divers was much higher than other operations and the dive masters gave us great leyway to maximize our dive profile. Anyone who uses the Cruise Ship recommended operation are fools. They are nothing but cattle cars. Thanks guys, you are the best.

Perfect Island Diving We arrived via cruise ship and were met at the bow of our ship. This was a short three-minute walk. Talk about convenience! The ride to the first site was swift and smooth. The wreck M/V WIT Concrete was easily visible from the surface and the free decent was a pleasure. Visibility at 100 plus feet and temperature at depth was 84 degrees. No current. Conditions do not get any better. The majority of my 18 years of diving are in California waters. Pleasurable but demanding at times. Explored the wreck from top to bottom, bow to aft. 100 foot maximum depth and total bottom time of 34 minutes. On to site two. This was a finger reef site. Lots of color supplied by the local inhabitants. Numerous varieties of coral. Again, excellent visibility in calm, warm water. One-hour bottom time at a max depth of 50 feet. Surfaced feeling great! After being dropped of at the cruise ship I realized I had left my fins on the dive-boat Barefoot Diver. A call to the dive shop and arrangements were made to deliver the forgotten fins to the dock. Now this is customer service. Thanks guys. George Vella Fountain Valley, California USA george.vella@verizon.net

We did a Sunday morning lobster dive. The ride out and back was a bit bumpy. The first site was a terrific dive site just off Savanna island west of St. Thomas. The site was called Rock Pile and the terrain was a pile of rocks. It was a beautiful dive site. I would love to dive it again just for the dive. Depth was 75' and less. Vis was 80 or more. There was a slight current. The dive master knew just where the lobsters would be. Lucky I was with him. They provided what we needed to lasso the bugs from behind. The DM's experience helped us cull and release the female and bag the keepers. It wasn't easy! The DM, myself, and another diver brought back 6 from the 1st dive. Saw a shark, turtle, and a large variety of carribean fish, large and small, while looking for lobsters. We surfaced, did our surface interval and moved to another location called Motherload on the other side of the island. Vis was half the 1st dive and not nearly as interesting but we did get another large lobster. Long bumpy ride back to Frenchmen's Reef dock where we stayed. They gave me a container to carry my lobsters back to the room where we iced them down in the bathtub until dinner. The chef at the Blue Havanna (at the Marriott Morningstar Resort) had agreed to prepare them if we brought some back. The newly opened restaurant had never done that before and the waitstaff was buzzing about it. The chef seemed truly excited when we told him to "do his own thing" with the lobsters. Our 25th anniversary day, dive & dinner couldn't have been more excellent or memorable. I highly recommend Blue Island and the Marriott Resort. We plan to return and do more diving there. St. Thomas diving was beautiful. We couldn't believe the warmth of the water! We wish someone would have told us a "boat" would pick us up at the cruise ship rather than a car because we almost missed our dives! We were waiting on the street looking for a van! All we were told was we would be "picked up." We wish the divemaster also knew a little more history about our dives and the island. I guess he was new. The dives were still great, thanks!

Another great week of dives with Blue Island. Last week was my 4th trip diving with your shop, and it continues to be a great experience. We started off with my favorite dive, the WIT Shoal then threw in a couple of dives at French Cap later in the week. Great dives and great people to dive with. Thanks. See you next time.

Thank you for making the best of a rough day at sea. We arrived on a cruise ship between the hurricanes to find 6-9 ft swells - I was never so glad to see you arrive with your small group of divers as when I saw the cruise ship arranged pontoon boat loading its 20+ divers! We hope to spend more time at St. Thomas in the future and look forward to diving with you again. Thanks also for going out of your way to send me some of that great "pink" mask defog!

I really enjoyed diving with Blue Island Divers on my vacation to St. Thomas in September 2004. Deirdre was a great guide. The thing I liked most was that there was no hand holding and I was allowed to dive my own profile. The staff was extremely knowledgable about the wrecks we dove on. I will only use Blue Island Divers when I go back to St. Thomas. Thanks again. Duane

My wife and I dove w/ Blue Island on August 18. We were picked up at the cruise ship dock and taken on two very nice dives -- the Kennedy barge and Sprat Point. Divemaster Deidre was low key, but helpful. She gave good pre-dive orientations, but did not insist we follow her in the water. Saw a very large sea turtle inside the Kennedy and a smaller one on top of the wreck. The swim throughs at Sprat were fun. Although we were cruise ship divers, we were treated well. Can't beat their pick up and drop off from cruise ship dock. A friend had recommended going w/ Aqua Safari, but we chose Blue Divers because we liked the "vibes" from the website. We wer not dissapointed.

Although I was on a cruise ship, I did not book with the dive shop used by the cruise line, but went with Blue Island Divers. I found them on the internet. I corresponded via email and concluded they were the ones for my son and I. We were picked up and left off at the dock where our ship was berthed. It couldn't have been more convienient. A big plus for me was the total time consumed completing the dives. We were back at the ship by 12:30, with time to go to town. Can't say that about the other ports. No time left for town. I hope I will be able to go back some day and dive with Blue Water Divers again. Great dives. Finally got to see several sea turtles!

My husband and I are still relatively new divers. We only had one day we could dive while visiting St. Thomas, and just wanted something easy and beautiful. Our previous experiences were all challenging in some way (strong currents, low visability, etc.) After speaking with Deirdre on the phone, we were confident that we would have a great time with Blue Island. We were picked up right at the Marriott dock. Talk about convenient. Analyzed our tanks (nitrox available with Blue Island) and were off to the Winchell wreck. Our first wreck dive and we LOVED it! Deirdre and James - Thanks for your winning hospitality, warmth and generosity. It was our BEST time ever diving. We certainly hope to return, and wouldn't think of looking anywhere else in St. Thomas other than Blue Island!
